All New – LaCroix $6000 + SuperSport Slipboard – Is It Worth It?4 months, 1 week ago | 2 Replies
If you don’t know about LaCroix, you obviously haven’t been paying attention to the emergence of the “super board” category of electric skateboards.
“Ultra-boards” is a rare breed, and they mostly come from boutique brands such as Kaly, Flux, Bioboards, and of course LaCroix. These brands focus on manufacturing the most high-tech “out of the box” professional consumer electric skateboards on the market.
Now sit down, please! The Ultra Board is not cheap! They are not suitable for beginners! Think about it, the target market of the super board is the current super niche market. Single, with a good income and a high addiction to adrenaline.
The reality is that most people simply can’t afford it, and yes, I repeat, they are very expensive! But that’s because they’re packed together.Has all the latest, most advanced technology on the edge of circuit and battery technology… These boards are known for ridiculously long range batteries (like all-weather range and balls)
At tremendous speeds, and they’re all hand-built by people who have a passion for making amazing machines…Okay, back to LaCroix, so their most recent release is a $6000 + machine called SuperSport. Okay, so LaCroix uses another adjective-noun-combo, but I think your point is here! – It’s a beast. It’s a beast.
If it wasn’t already clear, their main goal was to make the most ridiculous, overspec scooter on the market, and it looks like they’ve done that.To the untrained eye, this new board may look very similar to previous versions, wheels, decks, and trucks are indeed the same as their previous “Lonestar Nazare” top shelf option.
So what exactly does a price above $6,000 get you?
Major upgrades to previous models are the high-voltage battery and ESC combination keys, as well as a bevel gear drive called the Falcon that can be attached as an “optional accessory.”
A bevel gear drive called Falcon can be added.
Of course, higher voltage batteries require a different charger, and you do get the 18S charger standard, but if you’re too short on time and coins, there’s an option to upgrade to the Uber Express 18S charger. Add in the new Hyperrims, titanium axles, ceramic bearings and brake lights and a few thousand rupees for shipping and you can make the $6,000 mark!
So is it worth it?
Let’s talk about practicality. The board is really heavy, weighing 23.2kg. Well, random numbers are meaningless, so let’s compare it to the top professional Turbo Levo electric mountain bike, which weighs about 21.3kg. So, guys! We’re now on the same court as the double-suspension eBike, which means the LaCroix SuperSport can be a bit awkward to carry around in the store, in and out of your car or moving around your apartment. Yes, they are clunky! So it might not fit in the trunk of a hatchback, and if you live in an apartment, it might eventuallyIt’s not easy to maneuver when packing in winter
Let’s talk briefly about maintenance.
Warning: The human body is inherently highly resistant to electricity, which means that without sufficient voltage, dangerous currents can’t flow through the body and can cause injury or death.
As a rule of thumb, more than 50V is enough to drive a potentially fatal electric current through the body. The core of the LaCroix SuperSport motherboard is the 75-volt power supply system. Do not open the power cover and attempt to repair the electronics inside the motherboard.
Well, now we’ve got the OH&S out of the way – the good news is that the board should be relatively simple in terms of ongoing maintenance. The new Falcon gear drive system has a fully enclosed housing, which means dust and debris can’t get into the driveline, which will mean a significant improvement in maintenance costs. Previous models used belts and pulleys, which can be damaged if small stones are sucked into the belt when riding over imperfect terrain.
The board actually outfitted the rear end with a spare shoe cover, because the force was so strong that the rubber wouldn’t last very long. You should probably order 3 extra sets of spare tires as these are the parts that wear out the quickest, and these are the inflatable tires for the inner tube, so maybe you should invest in a puncture repair kit as well.
